in stores now — my 6-year-old, neon green wardrobe

so i went to the mall today to pick up a couple necessities and search for some happiness in something new (preferably a clothing item and preferably cheap). instead of happiness, i found depression and anxiety over clothing that is not only frumpy and ugly, as seems to be the trend that won’t go away, but now also resembles colors and designs right out of the exceptionally bad 80’s. i’m talking about bright yellow triangles on a black shirt with blue stripes, bright glow-in-the-dark colors (the ones that we tried so hard to forget about), t-shirts with graphics from schoolhouse rock, rolling stones and blondie. do teenagers even know who blondie was (oh wait, google search = is (apparently they are doing a 30 year anniversary tour))!?

i feel old to say this - but why in the hell are these fashions resurfacing after we exhausted their brightness and ugly graphics beyond any appropriate amount of time! i mean why would i ever want to throw on an outfit that resembles my 6-year-old wardrobe!? come on!!

so, for some reason I have neglected my blogging responsibilites on this awesomely professional, noble blog of ours ... and have joined facebook... wtf, right? oh well - look me up if your on facebook, i'm enjoying wasting some time there:)

this years trip to vegas was a success as far as the events went, an annoyance as far as my boss goes ... and well my assessment on the sexy costumes for 2008 is that buttcheeks seem to be in. When you didn't think the skirts could get any shorter ... they did, and A LOT of them did!

Annual Boyne trip

Abbey and I had a good trip up to Boyne Highlands a couple of weekends ago....Was nice to for the two of us to just get away for a couple of days. We did some of the usual relaxing and skiing, but I also got a super sweet chance to ride around in a snow cat with Rich. We spent a few hours grooming the ski hills. I have to say skiing a black diamond is fun, but going down in a cat, then doing a 180 and going back up is super cool...hanging off the edge of the half pipe is pretty sweet as well.

We also got a chance to break in our snow shoes...The weather was perfect and the snow was in an awesome condition. All in all it was a great weekend and I got some pictures posted here.

Me and the guys are going to be heading back up to the highlands this weekend for Grant's "bachelor" weekend...I'm looking forward to it as it should be a good time.

Finally, some time to breath. Let’s recap; it started back near the end of October with a trip to Phoenix to visit some of my family. November rolled in with a trip to the east side to visit some friends and Mom and Dad, then out to San Diego for Thanksgiving, and that was just the beginning.

December felt like quite the whirlwind. We found ourselves on the east side once again for my company’s annual holiday party, the following weekend included a hockey game in GR courtesy of Abbey’s holiday party promptly followed by a late night drive to Wabash for the weekend.

Fachew, let the holidays begin. The following weekend we were back in Wabash for four or five Christmases, I lost count. After those festivities we jumped back into the car and drove up to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas with my parents and sister. Once we were Christmas’ed out we headed back to Grand Rapids for a couple days of work before our long haul trip.

New Years brought a trip up to Marquette. We picked up Jake on our way and headed up north for Kevin and Marie’s wedding extravaganza. I don’t remember most of the drive up due to the mixture of a nasty cold and small dosage of Nyquil, but Abbey and Jake both ensure me it was a long and snowy one. The wedding itself was quite an event and I’d have to say, as weird as it sounds, but New Years Eve in Marquette is one not to be missed.

Imagine 2000+ people out in single digit temperatures in a small intersection to watch a ball made of chicken wire, tinfoil and xmas lights drop from a piece of wire.

All in all it’s been a busy couple of months. I did some of the math, in the last two months of the year I did over 30% of my total miles for 2007. Crazy.

Rockies are on fire and I attribute most of it to Jeff's awesome in-game "work". Since the Tigers are way done for the season and the fact that Jeff works for them, Kev and Marie live in Denver and Bill and Nichole are at least in the same state I figured I should be rooting for them.

So let's see some good action and hope for a sweep tonight!

i notice that some of you have noticed my new tumblr. and in an attempt of not seeming self absorbed — let me explain why the "physical journal on a daily-ish basis"

1. as a photographer, i've always wanted to do something like this, but i know i don't have the time or motivation to go through the taking the photo ... downloading it ... resizing it ... uploading it ... so once i learned (thank you mac) that on tumblr you can send images from your phone — i was all over it! (only drawback being that i won't be able to play with my photos in photoshop or do too much professional/artistic stuff)

2. i was at gpa and suzies a few weeks ago and realized another reason for me doing this is for my memory[loss]. i was looking at a photo and couldn't believe how short my hair was, i don't remember ever having it that short and then i realized that the photo was taken at easter this year, which i'm sure means that my alzheimer's is coming in quicker than i can even imagine. so this is my form of a journal (which i also don't have time to write in daily)

3. eh, why not? it's fun, and something to do:)

Las Vegas to Reno

so - i'm in vegas again ... helping mom at the Metal Clay Conference and we just happen to be staying at the hotel where racers for the TSCO Las Vegas to Reno off road race are staying. This is the longest off road race in the US. The racers left this morning at 6:30am from around Pahrump and the crews at 7:30 - they meet halfway to switch drivers, etc... then arrive in reno around 4pm... then it sounded like many of them made the trip all the way back down to vegas tonight. Mom and I met a two-man team that road a dirtbike while walking around the parking lot yesterday to get some pictures.

I will see if i can get any more pics while here ... maybe some "after" photos.
