How do you respond?
If you know anything about our neighborhood you know that the kids run this place, their parents don't have, or try, to gain any control over them. So over the past holiday weekend I was doing some work in the back yard panting some little patches of grass. I'm minding my own business when I hear some kids yell a few profanity's, not uncommon, even though these are 10 - 12 year old kids.
I didn't think twice and really didn't hear what they said, but heard the giggles afterwards. Once again I hear something yelled and the resulting giggles but I continue to ignore it. Again I hear the same voice and gave it an ear, "You look like a b*#ch! giggle-giggle-giggle" and this time I look over my shoulder in time to see a group of 3 kids poking their heads around a corner of a house looking straight at me.
Now keep in mind these are 10 - 12 year old kids, and I can see at least one of their mothers is within ear-shot of this event...but I was struck in awe. What am I supposed to do in this kind of occasion? What is the proper way to handle that...I went with the path of lease resistance and continued to ignore it and they eventually ran off to cause havoc somewhere else, but now 3 days later it's still bothering me.
